CBD And Your Heart Health: Does It Help?
How CBD may help lower your blood pressure and keep you protected!
__
High blood pressure is associated with many risks and illnesses, including heart attack, stroke, impaired vision, and metabolic syndromes.[1]
Finding simple and effective ways to keep your blood pressure under control can be a preventative measure against much more serious health conditions.
Did you know emerging research shows CBD as a potentially effective way to manage your blood pressure?
Below we explore the benefits of CBD on heart health and why you might want to consider adding CBD to your daily routine.
WHAT DOES YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE TELL YOU?
Your blood pressure is the force in which your heart pumps blood around the body.
Essentially, it dictates how hard your heart is working during contraction.
According to figures published by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stage 1 hypertension (high blood pressure) sits between 130-139 mm Hg / 80-89 mm Hg.
What does this mean?
The first number is your systolic blood pressure, i.e. the force in which your blood is pumped during heart contraction.
The second number is the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests (between beats.)
According to the same publishing, approximately 45 percent of adults in the U.S have hypertension, with only 1 in 4 adults having it under control.
Those are some pretty scary numbers!
THE DANGERS OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
When blood pressure remains high over a sustained period, ‘bad’ cholesterol builds up in the arteries, causing them to narrow and placing additional strain on the heart.
This means your heart is having to work harder to pump blood around your body.
Over time, this can lead to chronic health conditions such as heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, loss of vision, and sexual dysfunction.[2]
HOW CAN CBD HELP YOUR HEART?
I always strive to find natural, safe, and accessible ways to help people achieve their health goals.
CBD is a chemical compound called a cannabinoid, which can bind with cannabinoid receptors all around the body, helping with many health conditions.
CBD MAY BE CARDIOPROTECTIVE
Whilst CBD is commonly linked to helping improve symptoms of pain, poor sleep, and anxiety,[3] there is also emerging evidence that CBD may be cardioprotective! [4]
The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect of CBD can help to decrease symptoms related to inflammatory conditions.
The antioxidant properties of CBD may help against cardiac dysfunction caused by, and related to, high glucose (diabetes.)
CBD CAN LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE
Research[5] was conducted on healthy volunteers who were given 600mg of CBD in a controlled, double-blind, study; they then had their cardiovascular parameters monitored.
CBD was found to reduce systolic blood pressure, stroke volume, and resting blood pressure, as well as slow the increase in blood pressure in response to stress.
CBD could well be a daily preventative measure!
In a recent animal study into the therapeutic effects of CBD, results showed CBD can have a protective role in reducing ischaemic damage in stroke and helps to reduce the cardiovascular stress response![6]
That’s a lot of heart power.
